Bhubaneswar (24 Oct 2025) - The Ministry of Ayush and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) are jointly hosting a two-day national seminar on "Hepatobiliary Wellness through Ayurveda: Bridging Traditional Wisdom with Contemporary Science" in Bhubaneswar, starting tomorrow, October 25th.

The seminar, organized in collaboration with the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) and the ICMR-Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), is a significant initiative aimed at advancing integrative, research-backed solutions for liver and biliary health.


Key Focus Areas and Theme-

The central theme of the seminar is “Yakrut Suraksha, Jiveeta Raksha” (Protect the Liver, Preserve Life), underscoring the critical importance of liver health.

The event will feature deliberations across five key themes, designed to foster collaborative research between traditional Ayurveda and modern biomedical science.

Day One will focus on Holistic Preventive and Therapeutic Approaches, including:
  • Ayurveda dietetics, Dinacharya (daily regimen), and Rutucharya (seasonal regimen).
  • Panchakarma and detoxification therapies for hepatic health.
  • Scientific validation and disease-specific management of conditions like Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), Hepatitis, and Liver Cirrhosis using Ayurveda.


  • Day Two will emphasize Evidence-Based Integration, showcasing:
  • Experimental research on the safety, efficacy, and mechanisms of Ayurveda formulations.
  • Protocols for harmonizing Ayurveda with modern hospital practices, including discussions on the Gut-Liver Axis.

  • Promoting Collaborative Research

    The joint hosting by the Ministry of Ayush and ICMR highlights a commitment to scientific rigor and interdisciplinary research in traditional medicine. Leading experts, clinicians, scientists, and academicians from both modern and traditional medicine streams are expected to participate.

    Prof. Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General of CCRAS, noted that such integrative efforts are crucial for scientifically validating Ayurveda principles and strengthening its global credibility, paving the way for innovative, evidence-based liver care solutions.

    Dr. Sanghamitra Pati, Additional Director General of ICMR and Director of RMRC Bhubaneswar, emphasized that hepatobiliary disorders require cross-disciplinary inquiry. She stated that integrating traditional insights with contemporary scientific rigor can create comprehensive, preventive, and personalized healthcare models.

    The seminar will also include an exclusive session on "Ethnomedicine in Hepatobiliary Disorders," featuring 20 tribal healers from Odisha to preserve and spotlight indigenous medical knowledge. The event will host 58 scientific presentations, demonstrating clinical outcomes and translational potential in this crucial area of health.
