Faridabad (18 Sept 2025) - The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the reported difficulties being faced by patients at the super specialty Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital in Faridabad, Haryana. Action of the Commission follows media reports highlighting a severe shortage of doctors and inadequate infrastructure at the hospital.
According to the reports, a large number of patients, including over 6.5 lakh ESIC cardholders from Palwal and Faridabad, as well as many from Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram, rely on this hospital for treatment of serious ailments. Patients are allegedly forced to wait for many hours, even in the emergency ward, for treatment.
The NHRC has observed that if the contents of the media reports are true, they raise serious issues of human rights violations. In response, the Commission has issued notices to the Chief Secretary of the Government of Haryana and the Chairman of the Employees State Insurance Corporation. Both have been asked to submit a detailed report on the matter within two weeks.
The report is expected to detail the steps taken to address the lack of doctors and improve the infrastructure of hospitals to ensure patients receive timely and proper medical care. The Commissions intervention underscores the right to health and access to dignified medical treatment as a fundamental human right.
