Mumbai (6 September 2025) - Mumbai has been placed on high alert after its police force received a terror threat message on its official WhatsApp helpline, warning of multiple blasts across the city. The message, received on Thursday, claimed that 34 vehicles had been fitted with "human bombs" and 400 kg of RDX, and that the explosions would "shake the entire city."
The threat, purportedly from an organization called Lashkar-e-Jihadi, also alleged that 14 Pakistani terrorists had entered India to carry out the attacks.
Mumbai Police immediately launched an extensive investigation, heightening security measures across the city, particularly at key locations and during the ongoing Ganesh festival, which is set to culminate with massive immersion processions today. More than 21,000 police personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order, and the police have appealed to citizens to remain calm and report any suspicious activity.
In a significant development, the Mumbai Crime Branch has successfully traced and arrested a 50-year-old man, identified as Ashwin Kumar Supra, from Noida, Uttar Pradesh, in connection with the threat. The accused is being brought to Mumbai for further questioning. While the threat message appears to be a hoax, police are taking no chances and are continuing their investigation into the motive behind the message and whether any other individuals were involved.
