Nagpur (4 Dec 2025) - In a major action against corruption within the defence manufacturing sector, a Special CBI Court in Nagpur has sentenced two managers of an Ordnance Factory to five years of rigorous imprisonment each, along with a fine of ₹1.5 lakh. The conviction stems from a bribery case registered more than a decade ago.
According to case details, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had laid a trap in 2012 after receiving a complaint alleging that the officials had demanded illegal gratification from a contractor in exchange for clearing work-related files. During the trap operation, both managers were caught accepting the bribe.
After examining evidence and witness testimonies, the court held the accused guilty under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The judge observed that corruption in public offices—especially in sensitive sectors like defence production—undermines public trust and compromises national interests.
The court emphasized that strict punishment is necessary to discourage public servants from abusing their authority. It described the offences as “serious in nature,” warranting significant custodial sentences.
The CBI welcomed the verdict, saying it reaffirms the agencys commitment to curbing corruption in government departments. Officials added that such convictions send a clear message that no official, regardless of rank or department, is above the law.
Both convicts have moved applications seeking bail to appeal the judgment.
The case is regarded as a notable instance of judicial action against corruption in the defence manufacturing ecosystem, bolstering ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability across public institutions.
